Adebayo, Samuel

Samuel Olanipekun Adebayo, holds a Master of Philosophy in Demography and Social Statistics, Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. I have been involved in research for about two decades. I have been involved with several household-level studies both locally and internationally where I have developed capacity in survey design, coordination, and implementation, including the development of theory of change in program evaluation. At different times in the past decade, I have participated in the planning and implementing of surveys that adapt or completely adopted the methodologies of the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) as well as the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) such as a recent General Household Survey implemented by the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics where about 14,000 households were sampled across 23 Local government Areas (LGA). Currently, I lead the in-country data management team on a Bill and Melinda Gates funded family planning study in Nigeria and coordinated by the Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, Johns Hopkins University, USA (https://www.pmadata.org/countries/nigeria). This current effort is a mix of cross-sectional and longitudinal research designs, requiring us to follow up a cohort of women of reproductive ages who are both users and non-user of family planning in their dwelling units over different phases of the study and across the 2 most populous states in Nigeria (Lagos and Kano). My roles in these studies are usually diverse. For instance, I coordinate and participate in the review of research instruments, programing of the electronic data collection tool (CAPI/ODK), utilization of QGIS to demarcate the cluster boundaries using the GPS points collected during the cluster boundary verification exercises, validation of household listing and interview point checking for completeness using STATA and QGIS, household sampling, and report writing.
